A STRONG FIELD SET FOR 2012 TOMMY MOORE MEMORIAL JUNIOR GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP PRESENTED BY ALLSTATE SUGAR BOWL

The Kelly Gibson Junior Golf Tour, in partnership with Allstate Sugar Bowl and Lakewood Golf Club, is proud to announce the 2012 Tommy Moore Memorial Junior Golf Championship December 28 and 29, at Lakewood Golf Club in New Orleans, La. The field of the two-day tournament will be comprised of 78 boys and girls ages 12-18 from throughout the Gulf South and around the nation. The championship is fast becoming a national event for America’s finest junior golfers. Eight state junior champions will be part of the 2012 field. Top-ranked junior players from Alabama, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio and West Virginia are in the field.

The tournament honors the late Tommy Moore, one of the best junior golfers to ever emerge from the New Orleans area. He was ranked as the #1 junior golfer in the world by Golf Digest magazine in 1980. A very accomplished junior and collegiate golfer, Tommy went on to earn his PGA TOUR Card, and won the NIKE TOUR Boise Open in 1993. Tommy’s father, Dr. John Moore, and Tommy’s son, Mason, are honorary chairmen of the tournament. Kelly Gibson, also a PGA TOUR Professional, grew up playing golf with Tommy Moore in their hometown of New Orleans. As best friends, they traveled the world together while competing on the PGA TOUR. Sadly, Tommy died of a rare blood disease in 1998 at the age of 35. "Our Foundation is looking forward to another successful event,” Gibson said. “The partnership with the Allstate Sugar Bowl and Lakewood Golf Club is helping us to make this national junior golf championship a reality. I'm proud of my staff and all their hard work that goes into making this tournament great. It's a strong legacy that we are honoring in Tommy Moore's name." Gibson added, “This tournament will pay tribute to the many contributions that Tommy Moore made to the game of golf. Not only did he influence my career and life, but those of many others who knew him. He was a true gentleman of the game.” This year marks the second year that the Allstate Sugar Bowl has been the presenting partner for the TMMJGC.

“We’re pleased to once again serve as title sponsor for the Tommy Moore junior event,” said Allstate Sugar Bowl CEO Paul Hoolahan. “Consistent with the objectives of the Sugar Bowl Committee, this event showcases some of the finest junior talent in the Gulf South region and introduces these young players and their families to the great city of New Orleans. We couldn’t be more proud of this association.” The historic Lakewood Golf Club, former home to the PGA TOUR’s New Orleans stop, counts among its past champions Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson and Seve Ballesteros. “Lakewood Golf Club is privileged to be the founding golf course of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Tommy Moore Junior Championship where Tommy learned to play. Our commitment is to excellence and we look forward to offering these elite junior golfers an experience like no other,” said Brad Weaver, PGA Director of Golf at Lakewood Golf Club. Jimmy Headrick, PGA Professional and a Founding Committee Member, called Moore, Tommy Moore was “an inspiration to many during his career on and off the golf course.” “ I am honored to join Lakewood Golf Club, The Kelly Gibson Foundation and the Allstate Sugar Bowl in keeping his inspiration moving forward for the junior golfers of today and tomorrow, Headrick said. “The spirit for what Tommy Moore stood for lives on, a true gift to golf.”

Proceeds from this championship will go into a scholarship fund for members of the Kelly Gibson Junior Golf Tour. Each year, the Kelly Gibson Junior Golf Tour awards thousands of dollars in college scholarships to its eligible participants. Scholarships are awarded based on community service, grade point average, and financial need, not golfing ability. About the Allstate Sugar Bowl: The Allstate Sugar Bowl will host the 79th Allstate Sugar Bowl Football Classic on January 2, 2013, between the Louisville Cardinals and the Florida Gators. In addition to football, the Allstate Sugar Bowl is involved with various community initiatives through hosting and sponsorships of sporting events, awards and clinics. Through more than 25 annual events, the organization supports and honors over 13,000 student-athletes each year. For more information, visit www.allstatesugarbowl.com

About The Kelly Gibson Foundation:
The Kelly Gibson Foundation was founded as Feed the Relief, Inc. by Kelly and Elizabeth Gibson in September of 2005 with the idea of providing necessary support for the front line first responders to Hurricane Katrina. In the days and weeks following the disaster of Katrina, Feed the Relief provided support to the Coast Guard, EMS personnel, police and fire departments, community centers, hospitals, and residents as they returned to their homes. In 2010, Feed the Relief, a 501(c)3 corporation, changed its name to The Kelly Gibson Foundation, while expanding its mission to enrich the lives of children through athletics.
